How to save money at Publix using coupons

Publix_LogoI will start out by saying that Publix is my absolute favorite store to shop at using coupons.

It truly breaks my heart when I hear people say that they cannot afford to shop there. If they only knew how to shop at there.

I’m sure you think you know how to shop, but do you know how to get the most bang for your buck on groceries? In Florida, our stores do not double coupons and I am still able to consistently save between 50-80% off of my groceries. And yes things that my family will actually use!

The weekly ad runs Thursday to Wednesday in Florida, Wednesday to Tuesday in most other states.

Official Coupon Policy

Publix accepts manufacturers’ coupons (limit one per item), Store coupons (originals only—no copies), valid Internet coupons, and coupons from nearby competitors identified by each Publix store. (Competitor names are posted at each Publix store.)

We will accept coupons from competing pharmacies for prescriptions only.

We will not accept percent-off-items or percent-off-total-order coupons.

We will only accept coupons for identical merchandise we sell. Acceptance is subject to any restrictions on the coupon, and we reserve the right to limit quantities.

Manager approval is needed for individual coupons above $5.00.

For a buy-one-get-one free (BOGO) offer, each item is considered a separate sale.

We will accept a manufacturer’s coupon and either a Publix or a competitor coupon on the same item.

Dollars-off-total-order coupons will be limited to one Publix and one competitor coupon per order. The order total must be equal to or greater than the total purchase requirements indicated on the coupon(s) presented.

Why I Shop there

(and enjoy it!)

Coupon Stacking. By this I mean that if I have a manufacture’s $1.00 off any Tide product and a store coupon for $1.00 off any Tide product then I can “stack” the two coupons to get a total of $3.00 off any Tide item. Most other stores (other than Publix) allow this as well.

BOGO Deals. They also offer a number of BOGO deals every week. You can stack your coupons on these deals as well. Use one manufacture’s & one store coupon on each item.

Example: Let’s say that the Tide product mentioned above were to go on a BOGO sale, per store Coupon Policy, you can use one manufacture’s & one store coupon on each item.

For this scenario, let’s just say the bottle Tide was $5.49, BOGO. I would be able to purchase two bottles for $5.49, use two $1.00/1 manufactures and two $1.00/1, a $4.00 discount. So I would pay a total of $1.49 for two bottles of Tide. Even without coupons, the BOGO deals are often amazing prices that beat Wal-Mart any day.

Store Coupons. Publix_TurnstilePublix is notorious for their store coupons. It seems that manufacture’s love to work with Publix (just as we shoppers do). The grey turnstile at the front of the store is the best place to start. There you will find a “Yellow Advantage Buy Flyer” and a “Green Advantage Buy Flyer”. These are packed full of monthly sales and usually have awesome Publix store coupons in them that can be stacked. Keep your eye out for cardboard displays throughout the store as well!

they also publish several magazines and have many clubs that you can sign up for; there are always some great coupons to be found. Make sure you sign up to receive everything you can! They’re all FREE :

*Grape Magazine

*Baby Club

*Preschool Pals

*Family Style Magazine

*Pet Program

Competitor Coupons. This is one of my favorite reasons to shop there! Each store has a list of stores that they consider to be competitors. You can also stack these coupons with a manufacture’s coupon.

Friendly Staff. If you have ever shoped there, then you know exactly what I mean. I worked for Publix through high school and can honestly say that they train their employees better than any company I know. Customer service is at the top of their priority list.

Price Promise. The store promises that the price you see of the shelf is the price that the item will ring up at the register. This is huge a pet peeve of mine at my local Wal-Marts! If the price is incorrect, they will give you that item for FREE! If you have more than one of the item, they will give you the first one free and price adjust the remaining. This has only happened to me a couple of times and it was usually on a clearance item. This promise just shows me how much they actually care.

Differences for Florida Stores

I’m not sure why, but Florida policies are a little different.

Here’s what I mean :

  • Floridians live in the sad “Land Of No Doubles” (LOND). We do not get double days, triple days or anything even similar. Stores outside of FL double manufacturer’s coupons up to $.50. So if you have a coupon for $.45, it will automatically double to $.90. In Florida, we can only dream being able to do this one day.
  • The next big difference is that we have to purchase two of the BOGO items to take advantage of the sale. In other states, the items will ring up ½ price, so you can just buy one. To Floridians, this can often come as a huge advantage. If you have a BOGO coupon and there is a BOGO sale for the same item, you will get two for FREE.
  • Penny Item: Stores OUTSIDE of Florida offer an item for a penny every Wednesday (Thursday in North Georgia). You should be able to find the coupon in your local paper. Some stores do not require you to have the coupon so check with your store if you cannot find it. You must buy $10 worth of products before coupons to take advantage of this. AGAIN, FLORIDA DOES NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE PENNY ITEM PROMOTION =(
